Food Grain Pilot Project District Haridwar
3.As the first intervention under the aegis of the Mission, special additional central assistance was provided by Planning Commission of India, for free food-grains to under-nourished adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers under a pilot project in 51 districts in the country, where malnutrition was widely prevalent. Started in 2002-03, the project was initially for two years, to be scaled after evaluation. For Uttarakhand, Haridwar district was selected by Planning Commission of India.
4.This project has the following components:
a)Weighing and identification of undernourished adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers in the community four times a year and monitoring their nutritional status,
b)Distribution of 6 kgs of food-grains (wheat/rice, based on local habitual consumption pattern in the State) to identified undernourished persons,
c)Training of AWW, in adult weighing and health and nutrition education,
d)Training of Supervisors and CDPOs in health and nutrition education,
e) Nutrition education of targeted beneficiaries and their families by AWWs, Supervisors and CDPOs,
f)Health education and health check up of targeted beneficiaries and their families by ANM,
g)Referral services,
h)IEC activities, and
i)Miscellaneous activities in conjugation with above activities.
