  Convergence between I.C.D.S. and District Primary Education Program of Education Department has been established wherein 125 Early Child Care & Education (ECCE) Centres have been setup at Anganwadi Centres, as following: -

Management Information System: The numbers of registers to be kept at Anganwadi Centres have been reduced from 15 to 7.

The number of target beneficiaries per Anganwadi Centre has     as  been  raised from 84 to 103. Now our target is 59280        Children  upto 6  year of age, 14820 Pregnant & Lactating Women and 2223  Adolescent Girls.

To promote healthy food habits and to impress upon parents the importance of supplementary nutrition, Cooked Food Scheme has been initiated in 01 Block (Bahadrabad)

The monthly Honorarium of Anganwadi Workers/Helpers has been doubled upto Rs 1000.00 for Workers and Rs. 500.00 for Helper since April 1st 2002.

Two Anganwadi Training Centers are operational in Haridwar.

Support of International Agencies     

Ø   World Food Program has been supporting the Supplementary Nutrition Program in ICDS through supply of India mix for the beneficiaries of Anganwadi Centres. WFP supported India mix has been supplied in Bahadrabad Project under Cooked Food Project.

Ø   'Towards informed Action' a booklet developed with WFP support for field functionaries on nutrition and health issues has been and supplied to all the Anganwadi Centers.

Ø   CDPOs / Supervisors of the district are being trained in World Food Program supported training on Motivation. 

Ø   Micronutrient focused I.E.C. Material has been developed with the help of MOST / USAID and supplied to all the Anganwadi Centers.

Ø   With the Help of MOST-India, Uttarakhand-specific induction training module for Anganwadi Workers has been developed and departmental personnel from Haridwar have been imparted training of Master Trainer. The field-testing of the Module was carried out in Haridwar.

Ø   MOST-India is training all the CDPOs / Supervisors as Master-Trainers on the subject of Micronutrient Malnutrition and Supportive Supervision.

Food Grain Pilot Project District Haridwar

1-The Prime Minister in his speech on 15th August 2001 had announced that a National Nutrition Mission would be launched and subsidized food-grains would be made available to adolescent girls, expected and nursing mothers, belonging to below poverty line families. To operationalize this announcement, it was decided to launch the National Nutrition Mission under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister.   

2- The core objectives of the National Nutrition Mission: -

i. Reduction in malnutrition,

ii.Reduction / elimination of micro-nutrient deficiencies relating to iron, iodine, vitamin A, etc., and

iii.Reduction in chronic energy deficiency.

Food Grain Pilot Project District Haridwar


3.As the first intervention under the aegis of the Mission, special additional central assistance was provided by Planning Commission of India, for free food-grains to under-nourished adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers under a pilot project in 51 districts in the country, where malnutrition was widely prevalent. Started in 2002-03, the project was initially for two years, to be scaled after evaluation. For Uttarakhand, Haridwar district was selected by Planning Commission of India. 

4.This project has the following components:

a)Weighing and identification of undernourished adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers in the community four times a year and monitoring their nutritional status,

b)Distribution of 6 kgs of food-grains (wheat/rice, based on local habitual consumption pattern in the State) to identified undernourished persons,

c)Training of AWW, in adult weighing and health and nutrition education,

d)Training of Supervisors and CDPOs in health and nutrition education,

e) Nutrition education of targeted beneficiaries and their families by AWWs, Supervisors and CDPOs,     

f)Health education and health check up of targeted beneficiaries and their families by ANM,

g)Referral services,

h)IEC activities, and

i)Miscellaneous activities in conjugation with above activities.

The Uttaranchal government has drawn up an ambitious development plan to be completed over the next ten years, Additional Chief Secretary said.


Participating at ''Meet the Press'' programme here Additional Chief Secretary said for speedy development of this hill state huge funds would be required and the state government had to get in touch with the international funding agencies.


He said as the State Government could not approach these agencies without Central clearence, it had submitted a number of development projects to the Central Government underlining the importance of external funding.


The Centre after studying the proposals had given a green signal to the State Government for negotiating with the external funding agencies, he said.


Additional Chief Secretary  said the State Government had approached the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for funding a number of proposals and negotiations were at a final stage and the Memorandum of Understanding was expected to be signed between the ADB and the State Government by August.


He said accordingly, the ADM will be providing around 400 million dollars to Uttaranchal Government for a number of development projects, he added.


He said the State Government was aiming to electrify all villages in the State by 2007 and all homes by 2009. Apart from this around 150 to 200 Million dollars would be required for the creation of new urban centres in the State.


He said to further develop the tourism sector in the State, the government had decided to provide a Helicopter hanger facility at Gochar. This would not only boost tourism in the State but also improve the connectivity, he added.


Additional Chief Secretary further said that State Government was holding discussions with varous agencies and departments for the setting up of a 300 M W gas based power plant at Haridwar. This would cater to the needs of the Haridwar based industrial units.
