Ancient Panchnamdev Mandir temple demands immediate renovation

The temple is presently in a dilapidated condition and is crying for immediate conservation measures. Most of the wood roof rafters have decayed and the roof may fall down any day. Weeds have grown on the building, which is posing a serious threat to the building. Much of the tin roof is also missing.
The history of the Panchnamdev Mandir can be traced way back to 1897, when residents of Kholagarh constructed the temple. A massive earthquake hit the Garhwal Himalayas in the early 19th century and the calamity damaged the temple badly. Tehri King Pratap Shah took interest in renovating the temple to make it a major attraction for Hindu devotees in the region.
Head priest of the temple Girishchand Joshi says, “Earlier, the Tehri royal family used to provide rations and salary for the temple priest and his servant. We used to go to old Tehri to collect our ration stock annually from the general merchants’ shops like Manohar Lal Bhagat Ram, Moolchand Jain and Hari Om. But, now, the Tehri Royal family no longer provides the old patronage and support to the temple.”
The Tehri Royal family used to provide a monthly salary of Rs 30 to the priest, as well as ration. This practice discontinued after Old Tehri got submerged some 8-9 years ago. “The shops from where we used to get free ration now operates from new Tehri. The general merchants claim that they have received no information from the Royal family to continue the old practice,” Joshi adds.
The Panchnamdev Mandir has become a soft target for antique smugglers. Theft has taken place in the shrine twice. First, the antique smugglers took away a rare black marble idol of Lord Raghunath and, in the second such audacious act, they disappeared with a bronze idol of Goddess Rajrajeshwari. Presently, the temple houses an antique idol of Ganesh, Suryanarayan and a Shivling.
In the past, members of the Tehri Royal family used to visit the Panchnamdev Mandir quite often. Raja Manvendra Shah was the last member of the royal family to visit this shrine located in Pratapnagar, during his election campaign. The temple is in a total shambles and presents a haunted place type look, which forces common folk to skip their visit.
The temple authorities submitted a request letter to the Uttarakhand Government for the renovation of the historic temple. They have not received any information from the concerned authorities so far.
प्रतापनगर का पौराणिक मन्दिर प्रतापनगर की स्थापना प्रतापशाह ने सन 1897 में की, यहाँ पर एक पौराणिक मंदिर ग्राम खोलगढ़ के बुजुर्गों द्वारा स्थापित था जिसका जीर्णोधार महाराजा प्रतापशाह द्वारा किया गया | यह मंदिर पंचनाम देव का है | इस मंदिर के अन्दर काले संगमरमर की रघुनाथ जी की मूर्ति स्थापित थी जी चोरों द्वारा चुरा ली गयी थी | जिसका कुछ पता नहीं चला | इस मंदिर के पुजारी जोशी ब्रह्मण हैं जिनकी तीसरी पीढी के श्री गिरीशचंद जोशी आज भी मंदिर में पूजा अर्चना करते हैं | मंदिर के अन्दर माँ राजराजेश्वरी की पीतल की मूर्ति थी जो चोरी हो गयी थी | इस वक़्त मंदिर के अन्दर सुर्यनारायण , गणेश जी की मूर्तियां संगमरमर की मौजूद है साथ ही मंदिर के अन्दर एक शिवलिंग भी संगमरमर का मौजूद है | इस मंदिर के पुजारी श्री जोशी अल्मोडा के झिझाड गाँव से रजा प्रतापशाह ने ला रखे हैं| पुजारी श्री जोशी के अन्य भाई पुरानी टिहरी के मंदिरों के पुजारी थे | रजा इनको प्रतिमाह राशन , पूजा सामग्री एवं वेतन दिया करते थे इनके रहने के लिए मकान मंदिर के पास ही है | पुरानी टिहरी डूबने के बाद इस मंदिर के पुजारी को लगभग 8 बर्षों से कोए सहायता नहीं मिल पायी स्वयं के प्रयास एवं कमाई से जोशी जी पूजा अर्चना की सामग्री की व्यवस्था करते हैं | मंदिर में आय का कोए साधन नहीं है ( जिससे मंदिर जीर्ण - शीर्ण हालत में है ) | मंदिर में चरों ओर बरामदा एवं कमरा है बहार ऊपर की ओर दो गुम्बद है जिनपर चददरें मढ़ी है | जगह - जगह चददर उखड गयी है मंदिर के ऊपर दो कलश लगे हैं एक अष्टधातु तथा एक पीतल का है | पीतल के कलश की चमक सोने जैसी है और अभी तक चमकती है | महाराजा ने मंदिर के वन्धान एवं वेतन को बंद न करने का वचन दे रखा था | पुजारी के पूर्वज 12 महीने यहीं रहा करते थे आज भी श्री गिरीशचंद जोशी यहीं 12 महीने रहते हैं | प्रतापनगर का पुराना नाम ठांगधार था यहाँ पर ग्राम पंचायत खोलगढ़ पल्ला की नामशुदा जमीन थी जिसको राजा ने अधिग्रहण कर जमीन के मालिकों को मिश्रवाण गाँव के नीचे तलाउ खेत दिए जिसका नाम आज धारगढ है | जो आज ग्राम पंचायत मिश्रवाण गाँव का हिस्सा है
